AN ODE TO HUBERTUS
What started as a project of interest, turned into a desire to tell my view and story on hunting. As a small child my grandfather
– who in that time lived in Germany – used to show me his rifles, bring home various game such as boar and wander the woods and teached me about the passion of hunters. Ever since, hunting has given me a feeling of nostalgia that would seem unreasonable to describe, especially given I’ve never even held a shotgun or rifle. Not only is this project a dedication to explain that nostalgia, but it is also to address what I deem to be a thriving problem in our society.
Our bio-industry is growing without hesitation. We as a people are blinded by greed, consuming everything that we crave. Blinded by this – common – practice in our daily lives, the decency of caring for our livestock is degrading. Even though we consume meat which has been raised purely for slaughter, people seem to be repulsed by the idea of pointing a barrel at wild life. With this story of images I wish to show hunting performed as a way of life, and not a sport to kill.
There are good and decent hunters in this world. Don’t let the bad ones take that from them.
Therefore I followed Mick, a hunter with discipline and respect for life.
All humans are hunters. It is in our nature.
“For over a year I have lived from one kill.”
