BORIS BORGHUIS PHOTOGRAPHY

cry wolf

cry wolf is an autonomous photographic work built from landscapes. The work revolves around the return of the wolf in the Netherlands. It is built from two perspectives: the human perspective, and the perspective of the wolf as I imagine it experiences the environment. This division reflects my own view on the subject and forms the foundation of the work.

cry wolf explores the social unease and tension between humans and wolves. Over the course of a year, I researched the presence of the wolf and the impact its return has had. During this time, I spent many hours in the plains and woods of the Netherlands, especially in places where wolves live and move through the landscape.

While the wolf is often portrayed as threatening or dangerous, in nature it reveals itself as a shy and elusive animal. The work exists within the tension between perception and reality, between fear and presence.

With cry wolf, I explore how a landscape changes once humans are forced to relate again to a predator that had long disappeared from the Netherlands. It raises questions about control, space, and the way we deal with a nature that cannot be fully controlled.
